Writer & theatre mum
Clare has had a career spanning newspaper journalism including being a columnist and feature writer; publishing, including setting up and running a series of local magazines; fiction writing with Curtis Brown Creative in London, as well as writing about the joy of exploring her local area, The Cotswolds (in the South West of England) on Substack.

She has found her new calling in writing and publishing books about the performing arts as she has two sons who, after years of youth theatre/dance lessons, now want to go into the industry. When her eldest son started down this route, they discovered there were surprisingly few books on this subject and a lack of advice for both parents and students.

Clare and her MT family (McVey Thomas are the family surnames but also, of course, MT = musical theatre!) are fortunate to be based in the beautiful Regency town of Cheltenham which has a thriving arts scene with many excellent community theatre companies and as well as professional touring shows visiting the town's various venues.

As for her boys, Archie is currently doing his degree in Dance & Musical Theatre at the prestigious Urdang, part of City, University of London; Harry is in 6th form, training at Stagedoor Learning, Cheltenham, on a two year BTEC extended diploma in Performing Arts. They can’t wait to be treading the boards in the West End or touring around the UK and beyond.
